We are now thoroughly entrenched in the holiday season here in Horezu and I’m definitely enjoying it. I love Christmas! On Wednesday, some of our students organized a holiday craft fair at school. It appeared to be quite a success, as the main hallway of school was crammed full of people for several hours. Unfortunately, Gilda and I were teaching while the fair was happening so we didn’t get to check it out until the end.
After our last hour, Gilda and I took to the chaos in the hallway to see what all the fuss was about. I was very impressed! Most of the students were taking down their tables in a rush to catch the bus, but we had a few minutes to browse. One group of students made really awesome jewelry. They had made earrings and necklaces from clay and painted plastic. When I saw the pair of earrings that were lime green with hot pink and black swirls, I just had to buy them! It was a difficult decision between the lime green ones and the ones with the cows on them.
Gilda found a cute little stocking ornament made by one of the boys in our 10th grade class. I wanted to get one for Nee-Nee, but it would have been too big to mail in an envelope. Unfortunately, since it was the end of the fair, there were no Christmas cards left. I was hoping to get one for Nee-Nee, since a homemade one would be extra special. The fair was a lot of fun. There certainly never is a boring day at our school! I hope that the students have another craft fair… I’ll be on the lookout for those cow earrings!
