Where It All Began: A Photo Essay

After the Hike

As I stated in my previous post, Kyle and I are engaged. He chose one of the most beautiful places to propose.  Welcome to Valeanu, Romania.  This beautiful highland forest and pasture is approximately 20km from Horezu, the place I now call home.

The first picture is a view from the cabin that we called home for two freezing cold nights. Unfortunately, even though it was the end of May, it was wicked cold up in the mountains. There was even ice on the ground during our hike up to the cabin.

The second picture is a lovely shot of the forest at night. Kyle’s amazing camera was able to capture a small glimpse of how beautiful Valeanu is at night.

The third picture is of a Shepard herding his sheep. Valeanu is a summertime highland pasture. Kyle had his camera ready as the sheep were herded near our cabin.

The fourth picture is self-explanatory. We took a picture of ourselves on the cabin’s front porch. Kyle was freezing so he had two coats on. Romanian springtime in the mountains was a little harsh for the Florida native.

The last picture was taken only moments before Kyle proposed.  The clouds were rolling in over the mountains, obscuring the still snow-capped Fagaras mountains in the distance. This place is otherworldly and dreamlike.  Above the clouds, far above the earth, a rooftop. Kyle could not have picked a more beautiful or charmed place.
